What is a Firewall?

A firewall used to refer to a barrier put in place to protect against the spreading of fires. Nowadays, the term “Firewall” can refer to network security. Instead of protecting from fires, a computer firewall “is a software program or piece of hardware that helps screen out hackers, viruses, and worms that try to reach your computer over the Internet.” – Microsoft.com.

There are few different types of firewalls. A Packet Filter, for instance, is a type of firewall which either accepts or rejects packets (pieces of data) depending on whether or not they pass the filter’s scan. (SearchNetworking.TechTarget.com) The settings for the filter can be adjusted multiple ways.

Not everyone has a tech team to help setup and maintain security measures like firewalls. That’s where ABR can help. We offer Firewall and Security setup, as well as several other network and server services.
