What’s new in Windows Server?

We can expect Windows Server 2016 to release early next year, not concurrently with the client operating system Windows 10, as in previous releases. What’s in store for the newest iteration? We’ve listed here a few items you can look for.

DHCP will no longer support NAP
The standard network dynamic host configuration protocol, depreciated in 2012, will no longer support network access protection.

DNS features
The domain name system will support computers containing more than one network interface. Additionally the DNS server will feature DDS record types TLSA, SPF and unknown records, as well as PowerShell cmdlets and parameters.

Windows Server Gateway
Your IT professional can look for the GRE tunneling protocol that can encapsulate several network layer inside point-to-point links over your IP network.

Network Controller
This new server role configures, manages, monitors and troubleshoots all network devices in the datacenter

Hyper-V Network Virtualization
Remove the constraints of VLAN and high-tiered IP address assignment from your virtual machines, and provide a more flexible virtualized infrastructure to tailor to on-demand server requests with this feature. Some new Hyper-V components:
Clusters updated from Windows 2008 R2 to 2012 level
Storage quality of service central monitoring
Better binary virtual machine configuration
WS-management protocol
Windows Update services integration
Hot add and remove for network adapters
Linux secure boot
Connected Standby compatibility

Additionally, the new Nano Server is built to use fewer resources while catering to cloud-originated apps. It is a smaller iteration of Windows Server, with efficient running capabilities. All tasks are performed remotely via WMI and PowerShell. And with more tools to be added, the Nano is likely a permanent item that we will continue to see upgraded.
